MCUA PSA: We are now two weeks away from the start of the high school softball and baseball season on March 13th. The Mid Columbia Umpires Association (MCUA) continues to recruit new and experienced softball and baseball umpires for the 2023 high school season. The association is extremely short on umpires for softball. Women are highly encouraged to join. Training is provided for new umpires. There is an assistance program to help with the purchase of gear for new officials. There is also an assistance program for the purchase of equipment for Military Veterans.
The next meeting for the MCUA is this coming Wednesday March 2nd, with the Baseball Division meeting at 6:00 PM at the Bargeway Pub on the catering side. The MCUA will then meet as a full association for a short session and then the softball division will meet at 7:00. The MCUA is an OSAA sanctioned association that provides umpire services to local area high schools. Join and help provide a valuable service to high school athletics. Make some extra cash, meet new people and gain a camaraderie with folks that is like no other.

Coach Little began his basketball coaching career at South Wasco Union High School in the Winter of 1984. He soon transferred to Dufur High School. During Coach Little’s stoic 40 year basketball career he has amassed nearly 400 wins. More importantly he has touched the lives of countless student athletes. To commemorate Coach Little’s basketball career the senior basketball players celebrated his dedication to the sport last Friday night before their game. They also recognized Nancy Little for her sacrifice in giving up 32 years of long lonely nights throughout Coach Little’s 40 years of coaching three sports all year round. Thank you again Mr. Little and Mrs. Little for your commitment and service to Dufur High School and Ranger Athletics.

Here is a PSA for the Mid Columbia Umpires Association:
The Mid Columbia Umpires Association (MCUA) is continuing to look for new and experienced umpires for the upcoming 2023 high school baseball and softball season. Women are highly encouraged to join. The season starts March 13th. The first meeting for the MCUA will be February 8th at 6 PM. The meeting will be held at the Bargeway Pub on the catering side. This meeting is the rules meeting and will also be an informational meeting for new members.
The region's high school softball and baseball teams need umpires. High school games cannot be played unless they have certified umpires. If it comes to where there are not enough officials to cover games, games could have a high probability of being cancelled. So join the MCUA and be part of something important for high school athletics. Training is provided for new members. There is an assistance program to help with the purchase of gear for new officials. There is also an assistance program for the purchase of equipment for Veterans.
