Dear Parents/Guardians,

Hello! My name is Leona Egeland, and as Dufur School’s CTE coordinator, I would like to take a moment to talk about the exciting things happening within the Ranger TECH program at Dufur School.

I know, you are wondering what in the world is CTE and Ranger TECH? CTE stands for Career Technical Education, or better described as an educational pathways program of study and Ranger TECH is the house for these programs. Currently, Dufur School’s only full program of study offered is in Agriculture. Myself, along with a group of dedicated individuals, are working hard to develop three new programs of study to be offered to High School students in the Fall of 2022. These programs will be in the areas of Construction and Trades, Health Sciences, and Early Childhood Education, including expansion of welding courses in the existing Ag program. Each program will consist of three full years of consecutive education and will be designed to enhance your students' learning experience by providing a hands-on approach to learning, skills development and assessment, and collaboration with licensed professionals out of industry. More information about these programs will be made available once program development has been completed, so keep your eyes peeled!

Dufur School has already started the implementation of hands-on learning and skills development by utilizing early release days for welding, construction and health science labs. Students who have elected to attend these lab days are earning a quarter credit while working with licensed professionals in the area of study they have elected. If you would like more information about the early release lab days, please contact Dufur school.

Lastly, I am thrilled to announce aptitude testing of 8th graders and high school students through YouScience. YouScience is the science of YOU! Through interactive brain games and tests, YouScience analyzes and collects data on how your mind is wired, what makes you tick, and discovers the skills and knowledge that sets you apart. YouScience aptitude testing will provide students, teachers and parents with a resource to use when making those difficult decisions of what high school program of study or post secondary education path should a student choose. Learn more about YouScience and aptitude testing at www.youscience.com.

I am looking forward to the future of Ranger TECH at Dufur School. Programs of study are an amazing educational opportunity, but are not fully possible for Dufur School without interest, involvement and support from students, parents/guardians and community members. If you would like more information on Ranger TECH and/or how to get involved, please contact me via email. Thank you for your support. Go Rangers!
