This Fall, our Elementary students have been learning the difference between small problems and big problems with the curriculum Kelso’s Choices. Kelso’s Choices empowers kids to solve problems on their own with the guidance and support of trusted adults. Kelso the frog teaches kids that they are smart enough and strong enough to resolve conflict. Our awesome 5th graders have been working on projects to reinforce these choices throughout our school. Be sure to ask your kids about Kelso’s Choices!

Mark your calendar for Dufur School's Family Fun Night on December 4th!

Today is an early release for students at 1:00 p.m. There is no school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. We wish all our families a very happy Thanksgiving!

Construction Progress!

Mrs. Wilson's high school anatomy and physiology class (and other guest high school classes) welcomed Tracy Hoyle from Donate Life Northwest to learn about organ, eye, and tissue donation. Mrs. Hoyle is a two-time heart transplant recipient and kidney transplant recipient.
Seventh grade art students painted these acrylic masterpieces on canvas with the help of a video tutorial. They were able to trace the outline of the truck, but everything else was all their work!

Dufur School Honors Veterans!

Last week, the Spanish 2 students celebrated El día de los muertos (The Day of the Dead) by making sugar skulls (calaveras), a type of folk art used during the holiday to celebrate the departed soul of a loved one. The students had fun using bright colors and bold patterns to decorate their skulls.
Beginning Tuesday 11/12/19, there will no longer be bus transportation for students in city limits. Those students should resume walking to school via 4th Street or 6th Street. Please walk safely.
High School Science assisted the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center with their restoration of native plants project by planting Oregon White Oak and Arrowleaf Balsamroot. As a thank you we were given a free tour of their bird of prey exhibit and museum!

Harvesting the Ranger Pumpkin Patch completed our seasonal cycle. The seeds from the largest pumpkins are being saved in a dry dark place to be planted next spring. The rest are being cooked in preparation for Halloween festivities.

The Green House classes are working on lasagne gardening. They collect leaves from their community service yard raking project, and Mrs. Olson picks up coffee grounds and newspaper from We-3 to recycle in the garden. They layer it up and top it off with donated straw or rotten hay, then plant pollinator plants into it.
