In our first season of middle school competitive robotics at Dufur School, we hosted a regional tournament with teams from Dufur, South Wasco, The Dalles, and Hood River. The students showed off their creativity, engineering skills, and teamwork as they worked in pairs with other teams to complete a challenge. Seven teams qualified for the state tournament from this tournament and fun was had by all. A huge thank you to all the volunteers that helped to make this tournament a success!

PSA for Mid Columbia Umpires Association: First meeting of the Mid Columbia Umpires Association (MCUA) will be next Monday February 12th at 5:30 PM at The Bargeway Pub on the catering side of the restaurant. This will be the 2024 new rules meeting for both softball and baseball as well as an informational meeting for new and prospective umpires. The MCUA is a OSAA sanctioned association that provides umpire services for local high schools in the Mid Columbia area. The MCUA are continuing to look for new and experienced umpires for the upcoming 2024 season. The high school season starts March 9th for our Washington schools and March 11th for our Oregon schools. Women are extremely encouraged to join. A training program is designed and will be provided for new officials. There is also an assistance program to help with the purchase of gear for brand new officials as well as a program to assist new officials who are veterans with the purchase of equipment. Low numbers of officials continue to plague high school officials in all sports so consider being a solution to a serious problem. So join now and help provide a valuable service to high school softball and baseball. Make some extra cash, get a little exercise and meet new people and gain a camaraderie with folks that is like no other. You can show your interest by going to the following link. http://www.newofficials.org/ Robert Jamack - MCFOA Commissioner

Mrs. Mead's 5th grade class did a hands on experiment today in science to investigate what air weighs. This helped solve the question of what plants eat, how they grow, and does air contribute to the growth of plants. They learned plants eat both air and water, not dirt as some hypothesized!
