Calendar Change: Due to our recent winter weather and days of distance learning, we have decided to adjust our calendar. We are moving the end of the 1st semester/2nd quarter to February 1st. This will allow our staff to wrap up the grading period with students. This will mean that January 26th will become a regular school day. The grading in-service day will become February 2nd, so school will not be in session for students that day. We thank all of our families and staff for their flexibility and understanding.
Junior high basketball photos for today have been postponed. The new date is yet to be determined.
Mid Columbia Umpires Association PSA: The first meeting of the Mid Columbia Umpires Association (MCUA) will be February 12th at 5:30 PM at The Bargeway Pub on the catering side of the restaurant. This will be the 2024 new rules meeting for both softball and baseball as well as an informational meeting for new and prospective umpires. The MCUA is a OSAA sanctioned association that provides umpire services for local high schools in the Mid Columbia area. The MCUA are continuing to look for new and experienced umpires for the upcoming 2024 season. The high school season starts March 9th for our Washington schools and March 11th for our Oregon schools. Women are extremely encouraged to join. A training program is designed and will be provided for new officials. There is also an assistance program to help with the purchase of gear for brand new officials as well as a program to assist new officials who are veterans with the purchase of equipment. Low numbers of officials continue to plague high school officials in all sports so consider being a solution to a serious problem. So join now and help provide a valuable service to high school softball and baseball. Make some extra cash, get a little exercise and meet new people and gain a camaraderie with folks that is like no other.

In the spirit of upholding the National Honor Society pillar of Leadership, the Dufur High School NHS hosted a trip to the Goldendale Reindeer Farm for Mrs. Huffman's 2nd grade class. Each NHS member buddied up with a second grader and the partners spent the entire trip together. The students learned all about reindeer including fun facts like only female reindeer have their antlers in December! Students were able to pet and feed the reindeer, roast marshmallows, and enjoy lots of fun outdoor activities. We thank Goldendale Reindeer for being so hospitable and welcoming kids from Dufur School!

The DHS National Honor Society hosted a K-12 food drive with all food collected taken to City Hall to be put in baskets for local community members. We collected over 1500 non-perishable food items! The sophomore class won the competition by bringing in a whopping 245 items! We appreciate everyone's support and wish everyone a Merry Christmas from the DHS NHS.
