Why does attendance matter? Students who are at school regularly have been shown to reach higher academic levels than students who do not attend regularly. This relationship between achievement and attendance may be apparent early in a child's schooling.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, which recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect. Dufur School is lucky to have a partnership with SafeSpace Children's Advocacy Center of the Gorge, whose mission is to reduce trauma to child victims of abuse through multidisciplinary evaluation and advocacy in a safe and healing environment. SafeSpace also provides evidence based, trauma informed child abuse prevention training to any and all youth serving adults and their organizations. Their aim is that through child abuse prevention education they will not only equip our community members to be able to identify and respond appropriately when identifying child abuse, but that they might also curb the tides of child abuse occurring in our community and abroad.

Yesterday, Mrs. Gratiot's 4th grade class had the privilege of a visit from our very own local published poetry author, Penelope Schott! Penelope shared poems from her own book, listened to our poems, and then had students write poems from their pet's point of view about questions they have for their owners. What a wonderful experience this was with a member from the Dufur community!

The 3rd Grade and High School Anatomy classes have been learning about body systems lately and recently decided to join for a project about the Skeletal System! They had a great time labeling specific bones and then using different types of pasta to create a model of the human skeleton!
