We are excited to be named as a finalist for the OnPoint Community Builder Award! Our project is the implementation of the ONCE early literacy program, pairing high school students with younger learners for one-on-one reading support. High school students in the education pathway will deliver daily tutoring sessions, gaining real-world teaching experience. The program aims to improve early literacy outcomes while building career-ready skills in future educators. It also strengthens connections across grade levels and maximizes resources in a rural district.
The award grants four schools a $2,000 prize, while one lucky school—determined by online community votes—receives a $5,000 prize. You can vote for the Dufur School project for the 2026 Community Builder Award by May first at https://www.onpointcu.com/onpoint-prize/community-builder/.
