McKinney-Vento Homeless Education

Homeless Education Plan

In accordance with the guidelines of the McKinney-Vento Act, the Dufur School District Homeless Education Plan ensures the district is meeting the requirements and providing services to homeless children and youth in our area.

Education of Homeless Children & Youth

Homeless services are available to children & families who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence. This can include families who are doubled up or sharing housing, living in a hotel or motel due to lack of funds or stable housing, camping in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, tents or sheds, couch surfing or sleeping in places not designed for long-term human accommodations.

Unaccompanied youths are also eligible for homeless services

Once identified these are some services we can provide:

1. Automatically qualify for free lunch
2. Use Title 1A funds for necessities, but not transportation
3. Transportation to allow homeless students to participate in activities and ensure full educational services.
4. Assistance for families and youth to obtain needed immunization and documents such as birth certificates.
5. Other services as needed
